New Police Station Finally Being Built

Harford County Sheriff Southern Precinct is finally getting their new police station!  It is being built on the old Bonnie Brae flea market location in Edgewood, on Route 40 (top of the hill) between Mountain Rd and Woodbridge Center Way.  The property has been vacant for several years and was purchased by Harford County some time ago.

Now if only someone could clean up and revitalize the aging Keithley Bros, Inc. property across the highway; that old salvage yard could use some salvaging.  And no, we don’t need more self-storage centers, retail stores or fast-food joints.  How about office buildings for a change, or perhaps a community services center?

From WJZ:

They were all smiles on the spot of a former truck stop and flea market. That’s because a new $10 million police station for the southern district will be built.
“This southern precinct is something that’s been needed for some time,” said Billy Boniface, County Council.
“I think it shows a commitment to the Edgewood, Joppatowne community that these are good, viable places to live,” said David Craig, Harford County Executive.

Census Team Volunteers Desperately Needed So You Don’t Get Underfunded
Edgewood Desperately Needs YOU!  The 2010 Census is almost upon us.  The Census data will be used to determine funding for Edgewood programs, facilities and much, much more.  Edgewood can not afford to be undercounted or you and your loved ones will be short changed!  To prevent this, we need volunteers that are willing to help pass out fliers and email information to folks in these communities, especially if you are from one of these communities:

I chose these communities because, based on prior Census data and a study commissioned by the Census Bureau, these communities are the most likely to be undercounted and thus UNDERFUNDED!  So, please help me help you by volunteering.

I will host a planning meeting with all the Census Team volunteers on Jan 14th  at the Edgewood Recreation & Comm Center? – 1980 Brookside Drive , Edgewood , MD? at 7:00 pm.  Hopefully you and a few friends will come!  If you can’t come, but still wish to participate in this effort, email or call me.  Omar J. Simpson, Esq.   Telephone: 443-504-7220.

Washington Court Apartments to be Torn Down Today

From the Baltimore Sun

Washington Court, whose 51 boarded-up brick buildings date to the 1940s and once housed Army officers, will be razed to make way for a residential complex that should prove attractive to the influx of new residents arriving as part of the Base Realignment and Closure process.

“Thousands of new jobs are coming to Edgewood with BRAC and it’s changing the real estate market here for the better,” said Harford Councilman Dion Guthrie, who represents the area. “Talk about convenience. This development will have something for everyone.”

The 26-acre site will be reborn as a 288-unit housing complex with a community green and clubhouse, gazebo, fountain, ballfield and walking paths.
